Registration Renewal
Non-resident active-duty Military stationed in Florida:
- Proof of current Florida insurance (binder, card, policy, declarations page)
- Military Orders showing Florida as your duty station (submit a copy)
Florida resident Military personal stationed outside of Florida pursuant to military orders:
- Military Insurance Affidavit
- Current Copy of Insurance Card (may be a state other than Florida)
- Military Orders (submit a copy)
Motor Vehicle Titling
Florida resident Active Duty Military stationed out of State:
- Sales tax exemption – You may be exempt from Florida state sales tax when titling and registering vehicles purchased out of state if the vehicle will not be brought into Florida for at least six months.
- Insurance exemption allows a Florida resident military member stationed in another state to submit out-of-state insurance when registering motor vehicles. You must fill out the Military Insurance Affidavit, comply with the requirements listed, and sign/print the document to submit with your application. Note: A vehicle maintained in Florida must have Florida insurance
- Vehicle identification number (VIN) verification – All used motor vehicles, including trailers with a weight of 2,000 pounds or more, which are not currently titled in Florida, must have a vehicle identification number (VIN) verification when registered and titled in Florida. This process is completed using the Vehicle Identification Number and Odometer Verification (HSMV Form 82042).
- Out-of-state military members can use a law enforcement officer from any state or a military law enforcement authority to perform the VIN verification.

Non-resident active duty stationed in Florida:
Non-resident military stationed in Florida have the option to title and register their vehicle in Florida, or they may display a current license plate from their home state. Note: Relocation outside the state of Florida will require the military member to register in their home state or new duty station.

Military Florida Driver License Extension Cards
Military personnel and members of their immediate family residing with them (spouse, son, daughter, and stepchildren) may be granted an extension of their Class E driver license. The military extension card is free of charge and will be a photo ID that you carry with your Florida license and Military ID. Holders of CDL licenses are not eligible for a military extension.
To receive the military extension, you must complete the Military Personnel and Dependents Affidavit and Driver License Extension Application, certifying active duty status in the U.S. Armed Forces while stationed outside of Florida and provide a copy of the member’s current military orders.

Upon receipt of your properly executed affidavit/application and current military orders, DHSMV will update the record and your driver license expiration date will be extended. Please allow DHSMV up two weeks to receive and process your documentation.
DHSMV will then mail you a military extension card which extends your driving privilege continuously each year until:
- 90 days after you are discharged from military service
- you return to Florida to reside
- you obtain a Florida driver license or ID card
Military Gold Sportsman Hunting & Fishing
Any Florida resident who is an active or retired member of the United States Armed Forces, the United States Armed Forces Reserve, the Florida National Guard, the United States Coast Guard, or the United States Coast Guard Reserve is eligible to purchase the Military Gold Sportsman’s License upon submission of a current military identification card or DD-214 and a Florida driver license.
Non-resident military members stationed in Florida also are eligible to purchase the Military Gold Sportsman’s License upon submission of current military orders for Florida and out-of-state driver license.
Concealed Weapon License for Military members and Veterans
Active military personnel who want to apply for a concealed weapon license should include a copy of their Common Access Card or other form of official military identification with their applications. We will also accept a copy of service members’ current orders as proof of active-duty status.
Honorably discharged veterans should submit a copy of their DD 214 long form with their applications.
